In an exciting move, Premier League West Brom Albion have officially confirmed the permanent signing of Josh Maja from League 1 side Bordeaux.
The 24-year-old striker, who showcased his talent with 16 goals and six assists last season, has now penned a three-year contract at The Hawthorns, marking a significant milestone in his career after a successful stint in south-west France.
Born in London, Maja made his professional debut for Sunderland in the Carabao Cup at just 17 years old. During his time with the Black Cats, he gained valuable experience in both the Sky Bet Championship and League One.
Maja’s impressive performance of 15 goals from 24 league matches during the first half of the 2018/19 season drew the attention of Ligue 1 club Bordeaux. He eventually joined the French side a month after celebrating his 20th birthday in January 2019.
Following his time in France, Maja embarked on loan spells at Premier League club Fulham and Championship side Stoke City. However, he later returned to the starting XI at the Matmut Atlantique, proving his capabilities as a top-class striker.
Ian Pearce, the Head of Football Operations, emphasized the club’s long-standing interest in Maja and their satisfaction in securing his services. Pearce stated, “The club has been tracking Josh for some time, and we are really pleased he is joining us. We have again had to be patient, but Josh is the striker we wanted, and his desire to play for Carlos helped us beat off significant competition from a number of other clubs.”
With his skills and determination, Maja is set to make a strong impact on Albion’s squad. However, the club acknowledges the need for some time to prepare him for the challenges ahead. The staff will work closely with Maja to ensure he is fully ready to face the upcoming games and contribute to the team’s success.
