Abubakr Barry says he remains fully committed to FK Austria Wien despite attracting transfer interest from English sides Hull City and Portsmouth ahead of the summer window.
The Gambian midfielder recently extended his contract with the Austrian club and has insisted his immediate focus is on continuing his development in Vienna rather than pursuing a move abroad.
Speaking exclusively to Footy-Africa, Barry said he is determined to help Austria Wien compete for trophies before considering the next step in his career.
“For now, I am focused on winning with this team,” Barry said. “Of course, every player wants to play at the highest level, and when that arrives, we will see”
“The fans here are amazing. I like the country and we go on for the upcoming seasons.”
Austria Wien activated an option to extend Barryβs contract in March 2026, keeping the midfielder at the club until June 2027. The move has strengthened the clubβs position amid growing interest from abroad, with any potential transfer now expected to require a substantial offer.
Barryβs performances have continued to enhance his reputation both in the Austrian Bundesliga and with The Gambia national football team, where he is regarded as one of the countryβs emerging midfield talents.
Despite links with clubs in England, the 24-year-old appears settled in Austria and is prioritising stability and development as he prepares for the new season.
With his future temporarily resolved, Barry is expected to play a key role as Austria Wien target domestic success and European qualification next term.
