In-form striker Denis Omedi could be set to leave Uganda Premier League side Kitara FC following interest from Egyptian club Al Ittihad Alexandria and local giants KCCA FC, sources fromΒ The Nerve AfricaΒ have exclusively learned.
Al Ittihad Alexandria and KCCA are vying for the coveted goalscorer and have received the green light from Kitara FC President Deo Kasozi. In an interview withΒ The Nerve Africa, Kasozi confirmed that he wouldnβt block the striker’s departure if the interested parties meet his valuation.
It is important to note that Omedi still has a year and a half left on his contract with Kitara FC. The Egyptian transfer window remains open for a few more weeks, while the Ugandan window closes this Thursday.
“Omedi is still our player, whom we value and hold in high regard. However, we wonβt stand in his way if he wishes to explore new opportunities both locally and internationally. The interested clubs just need to meet our asking price, and that will be it,” Kitara president Kasozi toldΒ The Nerve Africa.
Although Kasozi didnβt disclose the clubβs valuation of Omedi, reports suggest they are asking for aroundΒ β¬67,500. Earlier in the transfer window, the club turned down an offer ofΒ β¬45,000Β from Kenyan champions Gor Mahia FC.
Meanwhile, Omedi has started this season in blistering form, scoring seven goals in as many matches across the FUFA Super 8 tournament and the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary stage. He also scored for Uganda in this monthβs Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa in Johannesburg. Last season, he netted 21 goals in the Uganda Premier League and the Uganda Cup.
Having made his debut for Uganda’s senior national team (the Cranes) last year, Omedi has since earned eight competitive caps, scoring twice and providing one assist.
