Ugandan winger Rogers Mato Kassim is on the verge of signing a contract extension with North Macedonian top-flight outfit Brera Strumica, The Nerve Africa has exclusively learned.
Mato, who joined the club midway through the 2023/24 season in February on a one-and-a-half-year contract, has established himself as a key player this campaign. His impressive performances have prompted a new deal that will keep him at the club until the end of the 2026/27 season.
Sources close to Lumasa Sports Agency, his representatives, have revealed that the 26-year-old is set to sign the new contract on Friday. The sources also disclosed that the player will receive an improved salary as part of the deal.
βMato has been one of the figureheads at Brera Strumica, especially this season. With just months remaining on his current contract, the club has decided to secure him until the end of the 2026/27 season. The player has agreed to the new terms, and he will sign before the weekend,β a source told The Nerve Africa in an exclusive interview.
It is worth noting that Mato, whose Transfermarkt valuation stands at approximately β¬300,000, joined Brera Strumica from Turkish second-division side ΕanlΔ±urfaspor. This move came less than a year after his departure from KCCA FC in the Uganda Premier League. He has also previously played for Proline FC.
Since joining Brera Strumica, Mato has featured in 32 matches, scoring four goals and providing six assists. This season, he has contributed two goals and four assists so far. At ΕanlΔ±urfaspor, he made six appearances last year.
Meanwhile, Mato has also been a mainstay in the Uganda National Senior Team, the Cranes, since his debut in 2022. He has earned 21 competitive caps, scoring five goals and providing two assists. He played a central role in helping Uganda qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, set to take place in Morocco.
