French Ligue 1 side Nantes have renewed their interest in Ghanaian international winger Kamaldeen Sulemana, as they aim to secure a loan deal from English club Southampton, as per Africa Foot.
This marks Nantes’ second attempt to sign the 23-year-old, following an initial move during the January transfer window. However, at the time, Southampton rejected the offer, favouring a permanent transfer over a loan. The Championship side reportedly demanded a fee of €20 million, which forced Nantes to back out of the negotiations.
With the summer transfer window approaching, Nantes have re-opened talks, identifying Sulemana as a top priority target. According to a reliable source close to Sulemana’s family—who also serve as his management—Nantes are proposing a loan deal with an obligation to buy.
“They really want him, but he’s an expensive purchase, so their preference is a loan with an obligation to buy. It’s their second go at Kamaldeen after they were priced out in January,” the source told Africa Foot exclusively. “The player is open to the move as he wants to return to top-flight football, but Southampton are expected to be tough negotiators again.”
Sulemana, whose current market value on Transfermarkt is estimated at €13 million, still has two years remaining on his contract with Southampton. A move to Nantes would mark his return to Ligue 1, where he previously played for Stade Rennais. He also began his European career with Danish side FC Nordsjælland.
On the international stage, Kamaldeen Sulemana is a senior Ghana national team player with 20 caps and one assist for the Black Stars.
