Despite initially agreeing to terms on a transfer, Ugandan youngster Hakim Mutebi’s move to Tunisian outfit Club Athletic Bizertin has been called off, The Nerve Africa has exclusively learned.
Mutebi, a free agent, had been set to join Bizertin in September, but the move was unexpectedly aborted. This decision came after the club’s head coach, Sami Gafsi, informed Technical Director Mohamed Ben Hassen that he no longer required the player’s services due to the swift recovery of key playmaker Oussama Ali from injury.
Mutebi’s representatives, Prosper Sports Agency, have since been notified of the decision by the club. A source from the agency expressed disappointment but confirmed that efforts are underway to find the next opportunity for the 18-year-old talent.
“It’s disappointing that a club of Bizertin’s calibre operates in this manner. We had agreed to their terms, but over two months later, after keeping us in the dark, they delivered this kind of decision. Our next course of action is to find a worthy home for Hakim (Mutebi). He’s a huge talent and deserves to play for a team that values him,” the source told The Nerve Africa in an exclusive interview.
Despite his young age, Mutebi is already a Uganda Premier League champion with record-holders SC Villa (2023/24). He is also a CECAFA U18 champion with Uganda, a title they claimed in 2023, where he was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament.
Mutebi has also represented Uganda’s prestigious St Mary’s School Kitende, where he earned the Most Valuable Player award at the 2023 East African Schools Championships. Additionally, he boasts a bronze medal from the 2022 U20 Africa Cup of Nations.
Meanwhile, the versatile attacking midfielder, who can also play as a forward, has already earned three caps for the Uganda National Senior team, the Cranes. He has scored one goal and provided an assist, both during the FUFA Super 8 held in September this year.
