Ugandan international left-back Mustafa Kizza has revealed his intention to return to the Uganda Premier League following an unsuccessful spell in Egypt, The Nerve Africa has exclusively learned.
The 25-year-old defender recently parted ways with Egyptian club Telecom FC just months after signing a two-year contract in October 2024. Kizza terminated the deal in February 2025 due to the club’s failure to fulfill agreed financial obligations.
Kizza, who previously played for seven-time Uganda Premier League champions Express FC, has struggled to find stability in recent seasons. Frequent fallouts with club officials and limited game time have hindered his progress.
In an exclusive interview, the former CF Montréal and Arouca SC defender confirmed he is aiming to revive his career back home.
“Right now, my focus is to return home and play regularly as I reset myself to the standards I’ve set,” Kizza said. “By the end of next month, I’ll have found a new home, and it will definitely be in the Uganda Premier League. The goal is to get as much game time as possible, rebuild my fitness, and perform consistently. After a year or two, I’ll aim to return to football abroad.”
Despite his recent setbacks, Kizza remains confident in his abilities:
“I know what I can do. I believe in myself and in my goals. I’ve not yet hit my prime, so it’s just a matter of time before I get back to my best. What I need most now is regular football.”
Over the course of his career, Kizza has featured for top clubs including his boyhood team KCCA FC (in two separate spells), Major League Soccer side CF Montréal (2020), and Portuguese club Arouca SC (2022–2023).
On the international stage, Kizza has earned nine caps for the Uganda Cranes since making his debut in 2019. He has scored one goal and provided two assists for the national team.
