Ugandan-born striker Erick Kenzo Kambale is on the verge of leaving Uganda Premier League giants Vipers SC to join Libyan Premier League outfit Alittihad Misurata Sports Club, The Nerve Africa sources have exclusively learned.
This follows an agreement between Vipers and Alittihad Misurata earlier on Monday for the transfer of the prolific forward. Kambale has flown to Libya for his medical and will subsequently sign a two-year contract.
Kambale has spent one year at Vipers, having joined them last season on a three-year contract, but he will now head to Alittihad Misurata. A reliable source at the Ugandan club has confirmed the development, stating that Alittihad has paid β¬130,000 (535 million Uganda Shillings) as compensation to Vipers.
“It’s a done deal, and Kambale is currently in Libya to join Alittihad Misurata. Talks have been ongoing since last week after Misurata sent their scouts to preseason games. They were also granted access to some training sessions. Kambale is 100% a new player at Misurata,β the source told The Nerve Africa.
In an uncharacteristically quiet season, Kambale scored four goals and provided five assists in 20 games for Vipers, who finished third in the Uganda Premier League. His low goal tally was largely attributed to fitness issues.
Before joining Vipers, he played for Sudanese powerhouse Al-Merreikh SC, where he scored three goals in six games. He previously featured for Uganda’s Express FC, netting 33 goals in 50 appearances across the league, the Uganda Cup, the CECAFA Kagame Cup, and the CAF Champions League.
The 24-year-old, who is eligible to represent both Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) at the national team level, has yet to play an international match. In 2023, he indicated that Ugandan officials had approached him but said he needed time before making a decision.
