Gambian international central defender Edrisa Ceesay has mutually terminated his contract with Serbian top-tier club FK Jedinstvo Ub, according to his agent, Bakary Bojang, who spoke to Nerve Africa.
βWe have terminated Edrisa’s contract with FK Jedinstvo on a mutual basis and are now working on securing a new opportunity for him,β Bojang confirmed.
The agent cited limited game time and the clubβs challenges as key factors leading to the decision. βEdrisa was not playing, and the club was on the verge of relegation. In the second division, they can only field three foreign players, and the club has released most of their foreign players,β he explained.
Edrisa Ceesayβs Journey with FK Jedinstvo Ub
Ceesay joined FK Jedinstvo Ub in July 2024 on a three-year contract from Senegalese club ASC Jaaraf. During his stint, he made four starts in six appearances, accumulating 385 minutes of play, averaging 64 minutes per game.
Despite limited playing time, Ceesay demonstrated his potential as a reliable defensive presence, earning his first national team call-up. He made his international debut for The Gambia in World Cup qualifiers against Seychelles and Gabon in July 2024.
Why Did Edrisa Ceesay Leave FK Jedinstvo Ub?
While the termination was agreed upon on neutral terms, experts suggest the lack of consistent game time likely influenced Ceesayβs decision to end his contract early. As a young and promising defender, he may now be seeking a club better suited to his ambitions and development.
Edrisa Ceesayβs Market Value and Future Prospects
Currently valued at approximately β¬205,000 according to Sofascore, Ceesayβs market value could make him an attractive prospect for clubs looking to bolster their defensive line. With his international experience and potential, he could soon find a new club to continue his career trajectory.
