In a strategic move to solidify its promising talent pool, Dutch AZ Alkmaaк has successfully renegotiated and extended the contract of eighteen-year-old winger Jayden Addai according to the clubs official website.
The significant agreement was inked at the AFAS Stadium, binding Addai to AZ until mid-2028, marking his third contract with the club.
Addai, who initially joined AZ’s youth ranks at Under 12 in 2016 from VPV Purmersteijn, has shown remarkable growth since. His first professional contract was signed in December 2020, followed by a second in June 2022. Notably, Addai played a pivotal role in AZ Under 18’s success, securing both the KNVB Cup and the overall championship in consecutive seasons.
The young winger has been a standout performer this season, earning a key role with the reserves and currently ranking second in the top scorer list of the Keuken Kampioen Divisie with nine goals. His stellar performances recently earned him a nomination for the prestigious title of Best Talent of the First Period.
Addai made his professional debut at the age of sixteen on April 8, 2022, with Jong AZ and has since made 32 appearances, showcasing his skills with ten goals and two assists.
Noteworthy is Addai’s impressive track record in the UEFA Youth League, where he played a crucial role in AZ’s tournament victory last season. His notable contributions include goals against Shamrock Rovers FC, Red Star Belgrade, and Eintracht Frankfurt. In the Final Four, Addai scored the decisive penalty against Sporting CP and opened the scoring in the final against Hajduk Split.
Having recently participated in AZ’s campaign for the new season, Addai played a key role in the team’s 3-4 victory over Molde FK, contributing with a goal and two assists.
Commenting on his journey and current form, Addai expressed, “I’m feeling good. Despite some rough moments due to injuries, I’ve bounced back well. I’ve worked extremely hard, not just in matches but also paying attention to the finer details off the field. Joining the first AZ team permanently is my goal, and I aim to make official minutes in the Eredivisie before the winter break.”
According to Transfermarkt the winger’s market value is estimated at €400,000. With Addai’s commitment and impressive track record, AZ looks set to continue nurturing and benefiting from the young talent’s potential in the seasons to come.
