Fulham will not activate the €24m (£20m) option to sign Nigeria international Samuel Chukwueze on a permanent deal from AC Milan, according to reports in Italy and Business Day.
The Premier League club are expected to allow the winger to return to San Siro following the conclusion of his season-long loan spell at Craven Cottage.
Chukwueze arrived in west London last summer hoping to rediscover his best form after struggling for consistency during his time in Serie A with Milan.
The 27-year-old showed glimpses of his quality throughout the campaign, contributing three goals and four assists across all competitions for Marco Silva’s side.
However, despite his attacking threat and experience, Fulham’s hierarchy are understood to have concerns over the overall cost of completing the transfer permanently.
Reports suggest the club believe the financial package attached to the deal does not represent value for money, leading them to consider alternative options in attacking areas ahead of next season.
The decision means Chukwueze is now set to return to AC Milan, where his long-term future remains uncertain as the Italian giants prepare for the summer transfer window.
The Super Eagles forward previously established himself as one of Europe’s most exciting wide players during his spell at Villarreal before securing a move to Milan in 2023.
