After a week of rigorous trials at Danish club Fredericia FC, Ugandan international Moses Opondo has, at long last, signed with the club, The Nerve Africa has exclusively learned.
The central midfielder has been with Fredericia since last Monday, undergoing trials for a potential move. A number of reports had falsely indicated that the deal had been finalized, but it later emerged from the club that he was still being assessed by head coach Michael Hansen, who needed to approve the transfer.
Opondo, who was released by AC Horsens two weeks ago, has since excelled at Fredericia. As a result, the player has signed a two-year contract, with an option for an additional season.
In an interview with The Nerve Africa, Opondo’s representatives, Sivebaek Sports, confirmed the developments and expressed optimism about his performance during the trials: βIt has been a puzzle, you know. Most outlets thought the deal was done last week, but we had to wait for a few more days because he (Opondo) had to complete the trials. It was a challenge, but itβs finally over the line.β
Last season, the 26-year-old, whose Transfermarkt valuation is estimated at β¬325,000, played 27 matches for Horsens across all competitions. Overall, during his two seasons at the club, he made 60 appearances. Previously, he featured for Odense BK and Vendsyssel FF in Denmark.
Meanwhile, Opondo has made three appearances for the Uganda national team (The Cranes). His most recent match came in March this year, when Uganda suffered a 4-0 defeat against Comoros in an international friendly.
