After more than a month without a club, Ugandan international Fahad Bayo Aziz is set to become a new player at the Serbian second-tier outfit FK Sloboda Užice, The Nerve Africa has exclusively learned.
Bayo was released by Czech Republic second division side MFK Vyškov at the conclusion of the 2023/24 season following the expiry of his contract. This marked the end of his two-year spell at the club and in the country, rendering him a free agent.
The 26-year-old is currently in his native Uganda, with his agency, Rainbow Sports, currently leading negotiations with Sloboda Užice. A source close to the player has disclosed that the Serbian side has proposed a two-year contract.
“His (Bayo’s) agency (Rainbow Sports) has new owners, but they have been instrumental in securing his next destination as soon as possible. There have been talks in Serbia with Sloboda Užice, and a two-year deal has been offered. It’s actually close, and it shouldn’t be too long before he joins them, as their season has already started,” the source told The Nerve Africa.
Last season at MFK Vyškov, Bayo, whose Transfermarkt valuation is estimated at €225,000, made 33 appearances across the league (FNL), the Czech Playoffs Promotion, and the Czech Cup, scoring six goals in the process. Overall, in his two years with the club, he played 50 matches and netted eight times.
Before his stint in the Czech Republic, he featured for Israeli sides Bnei Sakhnin and FC Ashdod. He has also previously played for Uganda Premier League side Vipers Sports Club and Proline FC, as well as Zambian top-flight outfit Buildcon FC.
Meanwhile, over the years, Bayo has established himself as an integral figure for the Uganda National Senior team, the Cranes. Since debuting in 2019, he has racked up 25 caps, scoring nine goals and providing four assists. He has found the net in both World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations qualification matches.
