Having endured a year without competitive action at the club level, Ugandan international Farouk Miya is set to join Romanian top-tier outfit FC Hermannstadt, sources from The Nerve Africa have exclusively learned.
A source affiliated with Miya’s agency, Rogon, disclosed that the 26-year-old could join the club if current talks remain positive.Β
βThere are serious talks at the moment with Hermannstadt. Details related to game time for our client are crucial, as he hasn’t played much in the past months. Farouk has to be back playing at the top level,β the source said.
The midfielder has been without a club since last May after his would-be spell with Ukrainian side FC Lviv failed to kick off due to political unrest in the country. He had joined them on loan from Turkish second-tier side Caykur Rizespor.
At Rizespor, where he spent the entire 2022/23 season, Miya put up decent performances, playing 22 times across the Turkish League One and the domestic Cup. That season, he netted four times and assisted on three occasions.
Currently valued by Transfermarkt at β¬200,000, Miya has previously featured for another Turkish side, Konyaspor, for two seasons, Croatia’s HNK Gorica (on loan), Azerbaijan’s Sabail FK (loan), as well as Belgian giants Standard Liege and Mouscron (loan).
In Uganda, Miya remains a national hero, having netted the goal that sent the country to the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations, marking their first continental engagement in 48 years. He also scored Uganda’s only goal at that tournament, securing the country’s sole point in a 1-1 draw with Mali. He has amassed 66 caps for the Uganda Cranes.
