Months after signing a one-year contract with Indian Super League side Gokulam Kerala FC, Ugandan winger Abdu Lumala has extended his stay for an additional two years, sources at The Nerve Africa have exclusively learned.
Lumala, who has already featured in seven matches, scoring five goals for Gokulam Kerala, has secured a new deal with improved terms, committing him to the club until at least the summer of 2026.
A source from his agency, Team Royal Agents, confirmed the development, stating, in an exclusive conversation with The Nerve Africa:
“Abdu (Lumala) signed his new contract today, I can assure you. The club believes he can be a significant part of their squad given his immediate impact. His wages and other terms have been enhanced, so itβs a proud moment.β
Before joining Gokulam Kerala, the 26-year-old briefly played for Croatian club Slaven Belupo Koprivnica, where he made four appearances over five months. He had joined the Croatian side from Ugandan giants Vipers SC, with whom he won both the Uganda Premier League and the Uganda Cup in the 2022/23 season.
In the past, Lumala, whose Transfermarkt valuation stands at β¬50,000, played for several Swedish clubs, including MjΓ€llby AIF, Kalmar FF, Varbergs BoIS, Helsingborgs IF, IFK VΓ€rnamo, and Syrianska FC. He also had a brief stint with Egyptian Premier League club Pyramids FC.
At the international level, Lumala debuted for the Uganda national team, the Cranes, at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations. Since then, he has made 14 competitive appearances, scoring twice and providing four assists. However, his last appearance in national colors was in 2022.
