Amid growing speculation linking Nigerian youngster Christantus Uche with a move to Spanish La Liga giants Atlético Madrid, sources close to the player have denied any negotiations between the two parties, The Nerve Africa has exclusively learned.
Earlier reports suggested that Uche was close to leaving Getafe, with Atlético Madrid reportedly making an approach to secure his signature ahead of the summer transfer window.
However, while a future move is not being ruled out, a source from Pintex Sports Agency, the player’s representatives, has firmly denied any contact with Atlético, insisting that the 21-year-old midfielder is happy at Getafe. His current contract runs until 2028, with a club option for an additional year.
“Reports will always surface when a player is performing as well as Chris (Uche), but we’re aware of the implications. It’s an honor to see him linked with Atlético Madrid and other top clubs, but we are not in talks with anyone.”
“Getafe haven’t held meetings with any club—we would know if they had. So at this point, there’s no contact. Our focus is on finishing the season strongly. He has a long-term deal with Getafe and is enjoying his time there,” the source told Kick Off Nigeria exclusively.
Uche’s Rise in La Liga
Uche has featured in 32 matches across all competitions this season for Getafe, contributing three goals and four assists. The attacking midfielder, currently valued at €8 million by Transfermarkt, has been a standout performer.
He joined Getafe from AD Ceuta FC, having previously played for Moralo FC, and has quickly established himself as one of the most promising young midfielders in La Liga.
International Ambitions
Although Uche has yet to receive a call-up to the Nigerian senior national team, the Super Eagles, a future selection seems increasingly likely as he continues to impress in Spain.
With no confirmed transfer talks at this stage, Uche remains fully focused on his development at Getafe, with ambitions to finish the season on a high before considering any future opportunities.
