Ugandan international midfielder Taddeo Lwanga will leave APR FC at the end of the 2024/25 season following a fallout with the club’s management over failed contract renewal talks, The Nerve Africa understands.
The experienced defensive midfielder joined APR FC, Rwandaβs most successful football club, in July 2023 on a two-year contract. However, Lwanga is now set to depart the Kigali-based outfit as a free agent after negotiations over a new deal collapsed due to disagreements over salary expectations.
According to sources close to the player, Lwanga was open to renewing his stay, but APR failed to meet his financial demands. Since the breakdown in talks earlier this year, the 30-year-old has seen reduced playing time and has been left out of multiple matchday squads.
βThe relationship with APR is strained and he will leave. Those talks in January caused the team to lose trust in him, which is why he no longer plays,β a source told The Nerve Africa. βHe asked for better terms, but what APR offered didnβt align with his expectations, and that didnβt go well with the clubβs top officials.β
Taddeo Lwanga Transfer: Whatβs Next?
Lwanga, formerly of Simba SC (Tanzania), Tanta SC (Egypt), and Atar/Solar7 (Djibouti), is now attracting transfer interest from several clubs across North and East Africa. Libyan clubs are monitoring his situation, while Sudanβs Al-Merreikh, coached by ex-Uganda Cranes boss Milutin ‘Micho’ SredojeviΔ, is also reportedly keen.
The former SC Villa and Vipers SC captain is known for his leadership and midfield stability, making him a valuable asset for any club looking to strengthen in the upcoming transfer window.
AFCON 2025 Qualification: Lwanga’s National Team Comeback
Taddeo Lwanga played a crucial role in Ugandaβs qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). After the Cranes missed the 2021 and 2023 editions, Lwanga’s return to form helped guide the team back to the continental stage.
He also starred at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, where Uganda reached the Round of 16 for the first time in over four decades.
With his APR chapter closing, Lwanga now looks ahead to the next phase of his careerβwith strong interest from African heavyweights and AFCON 2025 on the horizon.
