Former Ghana national team coach Claude Le Roy has endorsed a potential move for Southampton winger Kamaldeen Sulemana to RB Leipzig, stating that the Ghanaian star would thrive in the Bundesliga if the transfer materializes this summer.
The 77-year-old coaching legend believes Sulemana’s pace, strength, and dribbling ability make him a perfect fit for German football. He also highlighted that Leipzig’s attacking struggles this season could make the 23-year-old an instant starter.
Sulemana Linked with Move Away from Southampton
With reports suggesting Sulemana could leave Southampton if they are relegated from the Premier League, speculation around his future has intensified.
“I don’t know if the move to Leipzig is actually happening because I haven’t read about it, but if it does, it would be absolutely brilliant for both Sulemana and the buyers,” Le Roy said in an exclusive interview with The Nerve Africa.
“He has rare abilities on the ball—his trickery, pace, and strength allow him to beat multiple defenders. With these attributes, it’s a no-brainer that he would walk straight into Leipzig’s starting lineup and thrive.”
Will Southampton Let Sulemana Leave?
While Leipzig is reportedly interested, Le Roy noted that Southampton’s stance on the sale will be key in determining Sulemana’s future.
“The biggest question is whether Southampton will make the sale easy because that’s crucial if Leipzig are serious about signing him. Sulemana himself may push for the move, as Southampton is likely going down, and I don’t see him playing in the Championship next season.”
Other European Clubs Monitoring Sulemana
RB Leipzig is not the only club keeping tabs on the Ghanaian winger. Patrick Vieira’s Genoa, Ajax, Bayer Leverkusen, and Ligue 1 side Nantes have all been linked with a potential move for him.
Le Roy is confident that Sulemana has the talent to succeed in any of Europe’s top five leagues:
“The fact is, this guy is incredibly talented and would thrive anywhere. All he needs is to keep his head up, work harder, and maintain a positive attitude. Southampton will have a hard time keeping him at the club beyond this season.”
Sulemana’s Contract and Career Stats
Sulemana joined Southampton from Stade Rennais in the 2022-23 season, signing a four-and-a-half-year contract until 2027. Since arriving in England, he has played 64 matches, scoring four goals and providing six assists.
