Ugandan international and versatile forward Jude Ssemugabi faces an uncertain future at Uganda Cup champions Kitara FC, following stalled negotiations over a new contract, as per Africa Foot.
Talks between the player and the club had been underway for a contract extension, but they now appear to have broken down, with Kitara reportedly unwilling to meet the 28-year-oldβs demands. His current contract is set to expire at the end of the season in June.
Ssemugabi confirmed that contract talks had been shelved, though he declined to reveal where he might play next, should he depart the Royals.
βLook, there were talks [for a new contract] some time back, but not at the moment. I set what I want and left the rest to the club, but we havenβt talked about it in months now,β Ssemugabi said. βI donβt know where Iβll play next at the moment, but my managers and agent are working to resolve that. Iβm confident Iβll find the best deal for my development. For now, my full focus is on helping my team (Kitara) defend the Uganda Cup and finish strongly in the Premier League.β
In January, Ssemugabi was linked with a move to six-time Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC, though the deal ultimately fell through. Since then, he has reportedly attracted interest from East African giants Young Africans SC (Yanga SC) and Egyptian powerhouse Pyramids SC.
This season, Ssemugabi has made 23 appearances across the Uganda Premier League and Uganda Cup, scoring 11 goals and providing five assists. Last season, he featured in 29 league matches, recording six goals and seven assists.
At the international level, the winger made his senior debut for the Uganda Cranes in 2023. He has since earned seven caps, scoring once and assisting twice for the national team.
