Following his release from New York Red Bulls II, Ugandan forward Frank Ssebufu is reportedly on the verge of joining another Major League Soccer (MLS) Next Pro side, Huntsville FC, sources at The Nerve Africa have exclusively learned.
After two seasons with New York Red Bulls II, Ssebufu was informed weeks ago that his contract would not be renewed, prompting negotiations with Huntsville. Reports suggest that the player and the club are close to finalizing a deal.
According to a source close to his agency, ASSK, the 23-year-old has received a two-year contract offer from Huntsville. His representatives are currently weighing his options before making a decision. The source further disclosed that both parties aim to finalize the agreement before the end of the year.
βHuntsville has presented their offer after concrete discussions over the past week. The next move is up to the player, as he wants to evaluate all available options. The expectation is that a decision will be made by the end of the year, but as things stand, the outcome looks positive,β the source told The Nerve Africa in an exclusive interview.
Despite being released, Ssebufu was a key player for New York Red Bulls II during the 2024 season. He made 27 appearances, scoring once and providing four assists. In the 2023 campaign, he delivered an impressive nine goals and five assists in 28 matches. Before his move to the U.S., Ssebufu played for Uganda Premier League side Wakiso Giants, where he recorded eight goals and three assists in 23 appearances.
On the international stage, Ssebufu made his debut for the Uganda National Senior Team last year and has earned four competitive caps. However, he has yet to contribute a direct goal involvement for the national team.
