Youssoupha Sanyang, a 19-year-old Gambian-born Senegalese left-winger, has officially joined the newly-promoted Swedish Allsvenskan club Östers IF on a permanent transfer as per the club’s official statement.
This move marks the first permanent professional transfer of Sanyang’s career, following a short loan spell at the relegated club SK Västerås. During his time there, Sanyang played six matches, starting two, in the recently concluded Swedish Allsvenskan season.
Although Västerås expressed interest in securing Sanyang on a permanent deal and held an option to trigger a buy clause in his loan agreement, the club ultimately could not meet the terms necessary to retain the young winger.
Despite receiving interest from clubs outside Sweden, Sanyang and his representatives opted to remain in the Allsvenskan, believing it would offer valuable top-flight experience. Regarded as a rising talent with the potential to follow in the footsteps of players like Yankuba Minteh, Sanyang aims to make a significant impact with Östers IF in the upcoming season.
In an Instagram post, Sanyang expressed gratitude to Västerås for their support during his brief stay, saying, “Thank you very much to all the coaching staff, my teammates, the management, and the supporters for welcoming me into the club.”
Although Sanyang currently has no official market value, his potential and talent position him as a player to watch, with expectations that he could become one of the most highly-rated Gambian players in the near future.
