In a bid to address their persisting striker woes, Chelsea is reportedly considering Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, despite the hefty €117 million price tag associated with the Nigerian international, according to Goal.com
The Blues have faced offensive struggles throughout the current campaign, with high-scoring clashes against Manchester City and Tottenham masking vulnerabilities in their frontline. According to a recent report from The Telegraph, Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino is actively seeking offensive reinforcements, placing Napoli sensation Osimhen at the top of his wishlist.
Osimhen played a pivotal role in Napoli’s triumph, securing their first Scudetto in 33 years last season by netting 26 league goals and becoming the first African player to clinch the Serie A golden boot. However, strained relations with Napoli have emerged this season due to a controversial TikTok video with racist undertones, prompting Osimhen’s representatives to consider legal action. In light of this dispute, the 24-year-old forward is reportedly open to a move to Chelsea.
The potential transfer is further facilitated by the existing connection between the two clubs through Kalidou Koulibaly, who transferred to Saudi side Al-Hilal in the summer. Koulibaly, a key figure in any negotiation with Chelsea, maintains a close friendship with Osimhen.
While a move for Osimhen is unlikely to materialize in the upcoming January window, with Napoli valuing the player at €117 million, Pochettino sees the striker as a long-term solution to Chelsea’s scoring woes. The required funds, however, may prove challenging to secure, especially after the club’s record-breaking €125 million expenditure on Enzo Fernandez just nine months ago. Despite potential financial constraints, the Argentine manager is keen on securing Osimhen to strengthen Chelsea’s attacking prowess.
