Patson Daka, the Zambian striker for English Championship side Leicester City FC, is reportedly discontent with his lack of playing time this season, according to Bola News sources.
Daka’s frustration with his current situation has become increasingly apparent since the beginning of the Championship campaign. He has yet to make a competitive appearance for Leicester City in the current season. His absence from the team traces back to a prior transfer window, during which he expressed his desire to leave the club.
Manager Enzo Maresca initially labeled Daka’s exclusion as a “technical decision.” In a statement to Leicestershirelive, Maresca explained, “The players that were not in the squad today, it was because of a technical decision for some of them, and for some of them, I thought it was better for them to stay home.”
Daka’s woes intensified after a failed move to both Bournemouth and AC Milan on the summer 2023 transfer deadline day. Leicester City’s reported financial demands made negotiations with other clubs challenging, leading to Daka’s continued exclusion from the first team. In the current season, Daka’s sole competitive appearance came during Leicester City’s 3-1 loss to Liverpool in the EFL Cup last month.
As per Bola News an undisclosed source close to the player confirmed Daka’s discontent, stating, “Not at all; he is not happy. It’s a very sad situation for him, but trust me, he is a strong guy, and I am certain he will overcome this.”
Former Chelsea FC manager and current Zambia National Team coach, Avram Grant, expressed his concerns about Daka’s lack of playing time. In a September statement at the Heroes National Stadium in Lusaka, Grant said, “Normally, to be honest, I will tell you that I am concerned [about Patson Daka not playing for his club].”
Despite his struggles at the club level, Daka has continued to shine on the international stage. He has scored an impressive six goals in five matches for the Zambian national team and was the top scorer during the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
As the January transfer window approaches, all eyes are on whether Daka will secure a move to a new club in search of regular playing time and a fresh start in his footballing career. His future at Leicester City remains uncertain, and fans are eager to see what the coming months hold for the talented Zambian forward.
