Ghanaian defender Alidu Seidu has expressed gratitude to Ligue 1 club Stade Rennais after signing a contract extension that will keep him at the club until 2029.
The 24-year-old right-back was handed an additional one-year extension by the French side, a gesture that comes just months after he suffered a serious injury—a ruptured cruciate ligament—during a 1-0 league defeat to Lille in November 2024. The injury ruled him out for the remainder of the 2024/25 season.
Despite the setback, Stade Rennais opted to extend Seidu’s contract, reaffirming their trust and belief in the former Clermont Foot defender. Seidu, currently valued at €9 million by Transfermarkt, is determined to repay the club’s faith with strong performances once he returns to full fitness.
“I’m very happy to extend my contract with Stade Rennais because I’m very happy here. It shows big love from them and the confidence they have in me,” Seidu told The Nerve Africa in an exclusive interview. “For this love they have shown me, I’ll continue to work harder to come back stronger and perform very well on the pitch.”
Seidu also provided an update on his recovery, revealing he is close to returning to light training.
“My recovery is progressing well. The physio and physical trainer are doing a great job. I’m feeling good with my knee and very soon I’ll go to the pitch. My recovery is going very well,” he added.
Seidu has made 17 appearances for the Ghanaian national team, the Black Stars, and has scored one goal at the international level. His return will be closely watched by both club and country, as he looks to bounce back stronger than ever.
