Midfielder Kelvin Mwanza has been instructed to rejoin FC MUZA following a ruling by the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) Disciplinary Committee, reversing an earlier decision by the Player Status Committee, as per Bola News. Β
The previous ruling had allowed Mwanza to sign as a free agent, but the latest development has halted his potential move to Power Dynamos.
Mwanza had been sidelined since the start of the season due to a contract dispute. He attempted to sign with Power Dynamos as a free agent during the recent transfer window, but FC MUZA claimed he was still under contract. His agent, Lameck Sifeku, argued that Mwanzaβs contract had expired on July 31, 2024, following six years with the club. The Player Status Committee initially agreed, ruling in Mwanzaβs favor. However, the Disciplinary Committee has now overturned this decision.
In their judgment, the FAZ Disciplinary Committee stated that the evidence presented did not sufficiently support Mwanzaβs claim to free agency. They ruled in favor of FC MUZA, asserting that the midfielder remains under contract with the club. Despite Mwanza not signing a new contract, MUZA provided proof of payments, leading to the reversal of the earlier ruling.
Mwanza, who has had a successful stint with FC MUZA, helping them reach the 2022 ABSA Cup final and qualify for their first-ever CAF Confederation Cup, is now expected to return to the Mazabuka-based club. The ruling leaves the door open for further negotiations between the player and the club, but for now, he remains tied to FC MUZA.
