Moses Usor says he was driven by hunger rather than nerves after scoring the winner on his Nigeria debut against Madagascar.
The LASK forward came off the bench with the Super Eagles level at 1-1 in their opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Uyo before producing a solo run and finish to secure a 2-1 victory.
Usor admitted the occasion could have been intimidating, but said he was focused on making an immediate impact.
“I wasn’t nervous, I was hungry,” the 23-year-old told Footy-Africa. “The team needed a moment and I wanted to be the one to give it to them.”
The goal marked a memorable first appearance for the former 36 Lion academy player, who dedicated the moment to the coaches and staff who helped develop him in Nigeria.
“36 Lion made me. They believed in me when I was just a young boy with a dream,” Usor said.
The occasion also saw Moses Simon win his 100th Nigeria cap, something Usor described as particularly special given they share the same first name.
“I want to be like Moses Simon – his consistency, his humility and his commitment to the team,” Usor added.
The LASK attacker now turns his attention to Nigeria’s second AFCON qualifier, away to Guinea-Bissau.
