Ugandan attacking midfielder Ibrahim ‘Baba’ Kasule could leave MLS Next Pro side New York Red Bulls II for Major League Soccer (MLS) outfit Orlando City FC, The Nerve Africa sources have exclusively learned.
Orlando City is currently tracking the 20-year-old with the intent of signing him at the conclusion of the 2024 MLS season. Notably, Kasule’s contract with New York Red Bulls II is set to expire on December 31.
Sources close to the player have revealed that Orlando City made contact during the past week, presenting a three-year contract offer to the technically gifted playmaker. Kasule is reportedly enthusiastic about the move, as it represents a step up from the reserves league.
“Orlando has been interested for some time, but contact was only made last week. They want to sign Ibrahim (Kasule) for three years, and the boy is open to it. It’s a chance to play in the same league as football greats like Messi and Suarez, so he’s ready for the next stage,” a source told The Nerve Africa in an exclusive interview.
While Kasule continues to play in the MLS Next Pro (the reserves league) with New York Red Bulls II, he has previously been called up to the senior New York Red Bulls team, where he made a single appearance last season.
This season with New York Red Bulls II, the talented midfielder has scored eight goals and provided three assists in 24 appearances across all competitions. Last season, he netted 17 goals and registered seven assists in 27 games. His remarkable performances earned him the team’s Player of the Year award and a spot in the league’s Team of the Season.
In 2023, Kasule also briefly played for Turkish side Kaciorengucu U19, making three appearances. He joined them from Uganda Premier League club Wakiso Giants FC, where he recorded seven goals and four assists in 15 matches.
At the international level, Kasule has been called up to the Uganda National Senior Team on seven occasions but has earned just two competitive caps so far.
