Silko Thomas Otieno, the promising Kenyan winger, is setting his sights on a promotion to Leicester City’s senior team following his recent accolade as the Men’s Development Squad Player of the Season, Pulse reports.
Having made 16 appearances this season and netting five goals, including a standout brace against Leeds United in March, Otieno has caught the attention of both fans and coaching staff alike.
In an interview with the Leicester City portal, Otieno expressed his joy and gratitude for the recognition, saying:
“I’m pretty buzzing to win this award. It was tough competition, because I’m with a group of lads that are amazing on and off the pitch, so I feel privileged to get this award.”
His commitment and dedication to his development at Leicester City have been evident throughout the season, culminating in this prestigious award. Reflecting on his growth, Otieno sees this recognition as a stepping stone towards achieving his future goals.
“It’s been a really good year of development for myself. I’m buzzing about my own performances this season, and being in the Under-18s, I’ve been pushing on to the Under-21s and the bench for the First Team, so it’s been an unreal year,” Otieno elaborated.
Despite Leicester City’s Premier League 2 season finishing outside the second stage play-offs, Otieno’s potential has been acknowledged with a bench spot on the senior squad, hinting at future involvement at higher levels of competition.
The award ceremony was a moment of celebration for Otieno, who relished the formal aspects of such events. “It seems crazy to me that it’s all happening at once, but I love it. I love putting a suit on so tonight has been nice. Seeing all the people here has been great and something I want to get used to,” he concluded.
With Leicester City currently facing a challenging position in the PL2 league, Otieno remains optimistic about the team’s future endeavors, including their upcoming participation in the HKFC Soccer Sevens tournament in Hong Kong next month.
