After just one season at the Australian outfit Perth Glory, versatile attacker and winger Bruce Kamau is set to rejoin his former Greek top-flight side OFI Crete, The Nerve Africa sources have exclusively learned.
The 29-year-old spent the 2023/24 campaign at Perth Glory, having joined on a two-year contract from Australian A-League side Melbourne Victory. However, the final year of his contract will be spent at OFI in Greece.
A member of Kamau’s family confirmed OFI Crete’s apparent interest and that he is close to returning to the club where he featured for one and a half seasons.Β
βBruce (Kamau) will return to Greece at Crete. I know it’s shocking to everyone. They want him on loan, but his parent club wants them to cover his salary. It’s all agreed, and it will be signed after his medical and obtaining a work permit.β
Should the move go through, Kamau is expected to play a starring role in OFI Crete’s pursuit of a better campaign than their most recent one, where they finished fourth in the Greek Premier League Relegation Group, accumulating a lowly 35 points in 33 matches.
At Perth Glory last season, Kamau played 20 A-League games, failing to score a goal, but registering four assists. His other former teams in Australia include Melbourne Victory, Adelaide United, Melbourne City FC, and Western Sydney Wanderers.
With OFI Crete, he played 25 matches, scoring once and managing four assists. His biggest attribute is his versatility, as he can operate on both the left and right wings, as well as in central attacking positions.
For the Kenyan senior team, the Harambee Stars, Kamau has yet to make a competitive debut, despite receiving summons. Meanwhile, at the youth level, he played for Australia in the U21 and U23 teams.
