Versatile Kenyan footballer Eric Johana Omondi is set to extend his stay with Romanian outfit UTA Arad for an additional year, reliable sources have intimated to The Nerve Africa.
Omondi, who can operate as an attacking midfielder, a winger, and a forward, has impressed at UTA Arad since joining the team last year, and the club is set to reward him with a fresh contract.
All parties involved, including Omondi’s family and the club, held positive talks on Friday. Valued by TransferMarket at β¬343,000, the 29-year-old’s current deal expires on June 30 this year.
Having joined from Muang Thong United in Thailand last year, Omondi has played 26 Romania Liga One matches, scoring four goals and assisting once in the process. He has also played in two Romanian Cup matches this season.
Meanwhile, his football odyssey began in his native Kenya at the then-FKF Premier League outfit, Mathare United, where he played for three seasons.
In 2017, Omondi made the leap to Europe, joining the Swedish championship team Vasalunds IF. He also featured for Brommapojkarna and Jonkoping in Sweden, before joining the Belgian side Beveren in the 18 Pro League.
With the Kenyan National Senior Team, the Harambee Stars, Omondi has garnered 25 caps, managing five goals. However, his last minutes in the Kenyan shirt came in 2021 as they drew 1-1 with neighbors Rwanda in a 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier.
