Massively experienced Kenyan goalkeeper Arnold Origi Otieno is set to extend his contract with Swedish second-tier outfit Ostersunds FK, The Nerve Africa sources have exclusively learned.
Origi, who joined the club in January 2023, will sign a short-term contract that will run until January 2025, with no option for an extension. Reliable sources close to the player have disclosed that the player and the club have intensified talks in recent days. It has also been revealed by the sources that the new deal will be finalized in the initial days of the coming week.
While the 40-year-old has not played many games in the past year, he is seen as an understudy for the relatively younger goalkeepers at the club, including Andrew Mills and Christopher Lundhall. It has also been reported that first-choice custodian Aly Keita has attracted interest from Belgium and is likely to depart in this summer transfer window.
Origi has played only twice this season and managed just 25 appearances over the last three years. He has previously played for HIFK in Finland, Hobb, Kongsvinger, Sandnes Ulf, Lillestrom, and Ull in Norway. In Kenya, he played for Mathare United and Tusker.
A cousin to former Liverpool star and UEFA Champions League winner Divock Origi, the goalkeeper, whose Transfermarkt valuation is estimated at β¬10,000, is expected to retire from active football at the end of the new deal, at the start of next year.
With the National Senior team, the Harambee Stars, Origi, whose debut came in 2005, amassed 48 caps. His final involvement was three years ago in 2021 when he hung up his boots on the international stage.
