Kenyan experienced defender Daniel Anyembe has reached an agreement to link up with Belgian topflight side Standard Liege in the January 2025 transfer window, The Nerve Africa sources have exclusively learned.
The player, who plays for Danish topflight outfit Viborg FF, has been a subject of interest from the Belgian giants, with manager Ivan Leko sanctioning the move upon receiving a comprehensive scouting report.
Having concluded the negotiations with Viborg and Anyembe on Saturday, the player will sign a four-year contract at Standard Liege later this week. He, however, will only join The Reds in January, as the transfer window for contracted players is currently closed in Belgium.
A source at the player’s representatives NINE Group has disclosed that Standard Liege will pay a hefty sum for the Kenyan international, who still had two years on his contract at Viborg.
βIt’s a massive move for the player and the two clubs. Viborg will earn big, while Standard Liege will have got a great player. The lad is excited but relaxed about the prospect of a new opportunity. He’s a professional and will give everything at Viborg till January,β the source said.
Anyembe, whose TransferMarket valuation is estimated at β¬900,000, has been a pillar at Viborg since he joined them from boyhood club Esbjerg in 2021. He has since made 89 appearances across that spell in all competitions.
It should be noted that upon joining Standard Liege in January next year, the 26-year-old will be playing club football outside Denmark for the first time in his career. He grew up at Esbjerg, where he came up through the youth ranks to the first team.
Meanwhile, for the Kenya national team the Harambee Stars, Anyembe, whose debut came last year, has since racked up seven competitive caps, including two World Cup qualification games. However, it should be recalled that he had represented Denmark at the youth levels as a teenager.
