Former MLS and Ghana star Dominic Oduro in an exclusive interview with The Nerve Africa has expressed his happiness after San Diego FC drafted Ghanaian midfielder Manu Duah as the first overall pick in the 2025 Major League Soccer (MLS) SuperDraft.
Duah, 19, was selected following an exceptional stint at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he started all 14 matches for the Gauchos in his freshman season. He also played for Santa Barbara Soccer Club in MLS NEXT, Major League Soccer’s development program, helping the club reach the MLS NEXT National Finals.
The defensive midfielder, who idolizes former Barcelona legend Sergio Busquets, is regarded as a top talent capable of seamlessly integrating into San Diego’s first team.
Oduro, who holds the record for the most goals scored by a Ghanaian in the MLS with 63 goals in over 300 matches, was thrilled upon hearing the news.
“I personally don’t know him, but I know he’s a Generation Adidas prospect. I’m very excited to have a Ghanaian/African go number one overall in the draft. That shows that his hard work has paid off. I’m happy for him and his family on this journey he’s about to embark on. I wish him well and hope he grows in the league and helps put MLS on the map, as has always been done,” Oduro said in an exclusive interview with The Nerve Africa.
Dominic Oduro played for several clubs in the MLS, including FC Dallas, New York Red Bulls, and Columbus Crew.
