Ghanaian centre-back Charles Junior Sampson believes his recent transfer from Friska Viljor to Swedish Division One side AFC Eskilstuna is a major step forward in his football career.
The 21-year-old defender signed a one-year deal with AFC Eskilstuna and is eager to embrace the new challenge. He views the move as an opportunity to compete at a higher level and continue his development as a professional footballer.
Sampson’s football journey has taken him through the ranks of Segeltorps IF, Karlberg’s P19, and Vasalund’s U17 before making his mark at Friska Viljor. At the Division Two side, he clocked just under 1,000 minutes of game time before making the switch.
“In Friska Viljor, I had an amazing experience, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to play and grow there,” Sampson told The Nerve Africa in an exclusive interview. “However, moving to AFC Eskilstuna represents a bigger challenge for me, both in terms of competition and the opportunity to keep developing. It’s a step up in my career, and I’m ready to embrace it. I’m excited about the future here.”
The Ghanaian defender is not only focused on his personal growth but also hopes to play a key role in AFC Eskilstuna’s campaign this season.
“At AFC Eskilstuna, I want to help the team reach new heights,” he added. “My main goal is to contribute to the club’s success—whether that’s through strong performances on the pitch or by helping build a solid, united team. I want to help the club achieve its ambitions and push for higher positions in the league.”
AFC Eskilstuna are currently fifth in the Ettan Fotboll Division One Northern Zone with three points, and Sampson is expected to add strength and stability to their backline as the season progresses.
