Zambia striker Fashion Sakala has been extended an open invitation to return to his former club, Rangers, according to exclusive information obtained by The Nerve Africa.
The 26-year-old forward departed the Scottish club in August last year, embarking on a new journey with Saudi Pro League side AL Fayha for a reported fee in the vicinity of €4,7 million. According to Transfermarkt his current market value is estimated at €5 million.
Despite the geographical and league switch, Sakala has consistently expressed his affection for Rangers. His most recent display of loyalty came through an Instagram story post where he wished the team good luck while reminiscing about his experiences in the Old Firm derby.
The Nerve Africa’s inside sources reveal that Sakala was explicitly informed of his welcome back at Rangers. However, skepticism surrounds the possibility of a reunion. A source close to the player disclosed, “He was told that he can return to the club, but I don’t think it will happen. He really likes Rangers, but he may not return there.”
Sakala, during his tenure with Rangers, made a notable impact, featuring in 91 games, scoring 24 goals, and contributing with 15 assists since his arrival from Belgian side KV Oostende in 2021. His time with the Gers culminated in lifting the Scottish Cup.
Financial considerations seem to play a pivotal role in the decision-making process. The Zambian striker was earning an estimated annual salary of around €500,000 in Scotland, while sources indicate that his current remuneration in Saudi Arabia far surpasses that figure.
“His salary in Saudi Arabia is way too bigger than what Rangers were offering. I doubt he will return,” the source added, shedding light on the financial disparity that might hinder Sakala’s return to Rangers.
As the speculation surrounding Fashion Sakala’s future unfolds, Rangers fans remain eager to see if the striker will heed the call to return to the Ibrox Stadium.
