Zambian forward Francisco Mwepu, who shone during his loan spell at Atletico SanluqueΓ±o, faces uncertainty as Cadiz CF, his parent club, insists on retaining him despite his expressed desire to seek new opportunities, according to The Nerve Africa sources.Β
With a contract extended until 2026, the 23-year-old striker’s future hangs in the balance as Cadiz grapples with the potential loss of key players following their relegation from La Liga.
In November of last year, Zambian forward Francisco Mwepu expressed his desire to pursue new opportunities after his loan at Atletico SanluqueΓ±o.
The 23-year-old Zambian striker spent last season on loan from La Liga’s CΓ‘diz CF to the Spanish Division 3 club, where he appeared in 33 games and scored nine goals.
Following his loan spell, he returned to his parent club, CΓ‘diz, which is preparing for their campaign in the Spanish second tier after being relegated from La Liga last season.
Mwepu has taken part in the club’s preseason training and was an unused substitute in their friendly against Blackpool last Friday.
Despite being a CΓ‘diz player with a contract extension until 2026, Mwepu expressed his willingness to move if CΓ‘diz decides not to keep him after the loan period.
Mwepu said to Nerve Africa: “I am a CΓ‘diz player, but if there is any club that will approach me, I am willing to make a move as long as CΓ‘diz does not want to keep me after my loan here.”
The Zambian, valued at β¬300,000 by Transfermarkt, is open to new opportunities. However, The Nerve Africa has established that CΓ‘diz is now hesitant to let him leave.
The club is understood to be concerned about losing some of its top strikers, who are being pursued by other clubs following their relegation, and sees Mwepu as a potential player who can help them gain promotion.
Mwepu’s successful season at SanluqueΓ±o has led CΓ‘diz to believe he has something to offer the club, which has made few signings so far.
Despite this, Mwepuβs stance has not changed; he is willing to move on if a good offer comes his way.
