Benjamin Tetteh: Salary and Prospects of the Ghanaian Forward

In the 2023/2024 season, FC Metz made a triumphant return to Ligue 1. To solidify their position in the top French division during the summer transfer window, the club bolstered its ranks with the experienced striker Benjamin Tetteh. However, as of now, the French team has yet to witness the same level of productivity from the forward that he demonstrated in the Czech Republic and Turkey. Benjamin Tetteh’s Salary in FC Metz

The Ghanaian forward joined the French team in the summer of 2023, with his contract set to run until June 30, 2026. Over the three years in France, Tetteh will earn €1,560,000 without considering bonuses. For the 2023/2024 season, the Ghanaian striker will pocket €520,000, equivalent to €10,000 per week.

Team Salary Overview: Tetteh Among the Highest-Paid African Players

In the 2023/2024 season, FC Metz’s total payroll amounts to €11,710,000 per year, or €225,192 per week. Only three Ligue 1 clubs have lower wage bills. The highest-paid player in the team is the Colombian striker Oscar Estupinan, on loan from Hull City A.F.C., earning €1,200,000 annually or €23,077 per week. Benjamin Tetteh holds the ninth position in the salary rankings, ranking sixth among all foreign players in the French club. Additionally, he is part of the trio of the highest-paid African players at FC Metz, with the Algerian goalkeeper Alexandre Oukidja trailing him by €20,000.

Career Salary Comparison

Tetteh’s salary first saw a significant increase after signing with AC Sparta Prague. His move to the Czech Republic nearly tripled his earnings. Following a successful period in Prague, in the 2020/2021 season, the striker embarked on a new challenge, signing a loan agreement with Yeni Malatyaspor, where his salary once again tripled. It was in Turkey that Tetteh achieved the highest earnings of his career. However, after not renewing his contract with the relegated Turkish Super Lig team, the Ghanaian forward moved to England as a free agent. His Championship team deal resulted in a salary reduction of over 1.5 times. Nevertheless, Tetteh’s earnings increased by just under €100,000 after joining FC Metz.

Market Value

Tetteh’s transfer value began to rise after his move to the Czech Republic. Initially spending a quality season on loan with Bohemians Praha 1905, he successfully debuted with AC Sparta Prague. During that period, the Ghanaian scored 11 goals and provided four assists, marking his most prolific season. However, despite winning the Czech Cup the following year, his transfer value halved. Another consistent increase in Tetteh’s market value coincided with his loan and subsequent move to Yeni Malatyaspor. It was in Turkey that the transfer amount reached its peak at €4.5 million. However, since 2022, Tetteh’s market value has been steadily decreasing. A challenging season in England and an incomplete adaptation in France have led to a more than 2.5-fold decrease in his transfer value. Currently, Transfermarkt estimates the Ghanaian forward’s value at €1.5 million.

Achievements with the National Team

Before making his debut for the senior Ghana national team in 2021, Benjamin Tetteh played for youth and under-20 teams. His most significant achievement came with the under-20 team in 2015 when Ghana reached the semi-finals of the African Nations Cup. Tetteh scored in the first match against South Africa, and although it was his only goal, Ghana secured the bronze medal by defeating Mali in the third-place playoff.

In the same year, the striker participated in the FIFA U-20 World Cup in New Zealand, scoring another goal as Ghana reached the Round of 16 but lost to Mali.

With the senior national team, Tetteh took part in the rescheduled 2022 African Cup of Nations. However, he only played five minutes and was sent off in the second match against Gabon. Ghana earned only one point and failed to advance to the knockout stage.

Football and Financial Prospects

The first season in France has been ambiguous for the Ghanaian striker. Benjamin Tetteh has played in only eight matches, never completing a full 90 minutes in any of them. In the last two games of the previous year, he didn’t even make the squad. During this period, Tetteh has yet to make a significant impact. Currently, FC Metz is just two points above the relegation zone, and the forward has not provided enough reason for a contract extension. However, in the second half of the season, Benjamin Tetteh has already played in the French Cup. If he can adapt to Ligue 1, become a leader for the team, and help secure its position in the elite division, he may earn a new contract under improved conditions.
