The German giants Bayern Munich are on the verge of signing their ex-star defender Jerome Boateng, but no deal has yet been made according to Bavarian Football Works and Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg.
The 2014 World Cup winner lifted the Champions League twice during his previous stint at Bayern, as well as the Bundesliga nine times, five DFB Cups and Supercups each, and the Club World Cup twice. Boateng was named Germany’s Footballer of the Year in 2016
The 35-year-old defender is currently without a club following the expiration of his contract at Lyon. According to Goal.com Bayern are in need of defensive cover, having been left thin at the back following injury setbacks suffered by Matthijs de Ligt. The club higher-ups want him back at the Allianz Arena and the ex-Germany international is eager to make his return.
The official club statement confirmed no more that the player, who holds both German and Ghanian passports, will work with the team in upcoming training sessions:
Following Bayern’s 2-2 draw away at RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga on Saturday, the players who didn’t start the game completed a training session at Säbener Straße on Sunday. Among those involved was two-time treble winner Jerome Boateng, who will continue to train at Säbener Straße [Bayern’s training ground] over the coming days.
According to Transfermarkt the players current value is €800,000 with career highest of €45 million in 2016.
