The Gunners are not in talks to extend Thomas Partey’s contract, making it increasingly likely that the Ghanaian midfielder will leave on a free transfer this summer, as per the Caught Offside reporter Charles Watts.

Arsenal’s Midfield Refresh Underway

With Partey’s contract set to expire at the end of the season, the renown reporter Charles Watts reports that Arsenal have shown no signs of offering an extension. The 30-year-old midfielder, who joined the Gunners from Atlético Madrid in 2020, has faced multiple injury setbacks in recent seasons, limiting his impact on Mikel Arteta’s squad.

Thomas Partey’s Arsenal exit looking more and more likely as we head towards the summer – No talks over a new deal with changes planned for the midfield. There is strong interest from Europe.

Arsenal are expected to overhaul their midfield in the summer transfer window, with reports linking the club to Real Sociedad’s Martín Zubimendi and Norwegian prospect Sverre Nypan. Additionally, Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich has emerged as a potential free transfer target.

Barcelona, PSG, and Juventus Eye Partey

Despite his injury struggles, Partey remains an attractive option for top European clubs. Barcelona, PSG, and Juventus are reportedly monitoring his situation, with the Ghanaian international favouring a return to Spain. That makes Barcelona the frontrunners should he depart the Emirates. Meanwhile, clubs from Saudi Arabia have also shown interest, but Partey’s preference is to remain in Europe and continue competing at the highest level.

A Necessary Squad Evolution

Partey’s potential exits signal Arsenal’s intent to modernize their midfield. The club’s defensive midfield options primarily consist of ageing players in the latter stages of their careers, making a refresh crucial for maintaining competitiveness in the Premier League and Europe.

With Arsenal actively pursuing reinforcements, it seems Partey’s four-year stint in North London is drawing to a close. As the summer window approaches, his next destination will be one of the key stories to watch.
