French club AS Saint-Étienne has rejected an approach from Egyptian giants Al Ahly SC for Ghanaian midfielder Augustine Boakye, according to Ghana Soccernet.
The 24-year-old playmaker, who moved to France from Austrian side Wolfsberger AC last summer, has faced injury setbacks but recently showed his quality with a match-winning performance against Stade Reims, scoring twice in a 3-1 victory.
His display earned him a spot in the Ligue 1 Team of the Week for matchday 16, further cementing his potential. According to Transfermarkt the Ghanaians current value is estimated at €3 million.
Al Ahly, eager to strengthen their squad ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup’s revamped format, saw Boakye as a valuable addition to their midfield. However, both the club and the player rejected the move. Saint-Étienne remains unwilling to part ways with Boakye, while the midfielder himself is focused on establishing his career in European football rather than returning to Africa at this stage.
So far this season, Boakye has featured in 16 matches across all competitions, scoring three goals. Despite Al Ahly’s strong interest, the Ghanaian remains committed to proving himself in Ligue 1, while Saint-Étienne appears intent on keeping him as part of their plans moving forward.
