Ghanaian international and right-back Tariq Lamptey is set to leave English Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion and is poised to join Dutch giants Ajax, The Nerve Africa has exclusively learned.
The 24-year-oldβs contract with Brighton is set to expire in June 2025, with the club reluctant to offer a new deal. As a result, Ajax have opened talks with the versatile wing-back, who can also play as a right winger.
Ajax are looking to fend off early competition from the likes of Everton, West Ham, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Fulham, all of whom have shown strong interest in signing Lamptey. His current Transfermarkt valuation is estimated at β¬12 million.
A highly placed source close to Lampteyβs family, who also serve as his representatives, has disclosed that Ajax have made an approach and are offering him a four-year contract to move away from Brighton at the end of the season.
βAjax made contact with Tariq (Lamptey) because, at this stage of his contract, he is permitted to speak with other suitors. They are serious about securing his services on a four-year contract, as they are particularly impressed with his versatility, energy, and speed. It is still early days, but the signs of a potential move are positive at this point,β the source told The Nerve Africa in an exclusive interview.
Lamptey has been at Brighton since the 2019-2020 season, making 115 appearances, scoring five goals, and providing 10 assists. He joined the club from Chelsea, where he rose through the youth ranks and made three senior team appearances.
At the international level, Lamptey represented England in youth categories before switching allegiance to Ghana at the senior level. Since 2022, he has earned 11 caps but is yet to score a goal for the national team.
