Ghanaian football club Hearts of Oak defender Samuel Inkoom, 34, confirmed that during his European career, he received $1,000,000 in cash in a briefcase and a high-end Rolex watch as a signing bonus after joining the Ukrainian club FC Dnipro, according to GhanaWeb.
In an interview with Fiifi Banson TV, he also claimed that he traveled from Switzerland to Ukraine in a private jet and believes that these things were a reward for all his hard work during his career.
Inkoom signed a three-year deal with Dnipro in 2011, during which he had two loan spells with the French club SC Bastia and Greek Platanias. In 2014, he played for D.C. United in the MLS before changing clubs almost every year. Before returning to Ghana in 2022, the defender played for Boavista (Portugal), Antalyaspor (Turkey), Vereya, and Dunav Ruse (Bulgaria), FC Samtredia, and Torpedo Kutaisi in Georgia.
According to Transfermarkt, his career highest transfer value was €4,500,000, and his current value is estimated at €75,000.
There were several reports on his salary during his career. Reportedly, his highest salary was around $200,000 per year during his time in Turkey. Ghana Sports Page reported that now, according to his own statement, he plays for Hearts of Oak ‘from the heart,’ formally receiving just 50 Ghanaian pesewas, which is approximately 40 cents in USD.
