Nigeria midfielder Kelechi Nwakali has agreed a one-year deal with Cypriot club Omonia 29is after leaving Barnsley, according to Footy-Africa.
The 28-year-old is already with the First Division side and is expected to complete his medical before being officially unveiled.
Nwakali decided to move to Cyprus in search of regular first-team football after struggling for opportunities during his time at Barnsley.
The former Arsenal midfielder joined the English club in August 2024 but made only four substitute appearances towards the end of his spell, playing 52 minutes in total.
His agent, Allwell Nwakali, confirmed the agreement to Footy-Africa and said the move is designed to give the midfielder the playing time needed to rebuild his career.
Nwakali has previously played in Spain and Portugal and was part of Nigeria’s squad at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
The move to Omonia 29is gives him a fresh opportunity to establish himself in Cyprus and revive his international ambitions.
