Nigerian teenage winger Maliq Musa has completed his move from Ikorodu City to Belgian club Zulte Waregem.
The transfer was finalised earlier this week after the highly rated youngster passed his medical, with Musa already training with Zulte Waregem as he begins his bid to break into the first team.
Musa’s move follows an impressive rise at Ikorodu City, where he made his senior debut against Shooting Stars on the final day of the Nigerian Premier Football League season.
Ikorodu City media director Samuel Bamisebi believes Belgium is the right destination for the teenager’s development.
“Belgium is a good place to develop, and Zulte Waregem have seen how much he can grow,” Bamisebi told Footy-Africa.
Musa had attracted interest from several European clubs, including Barcelona, but Zulte Waregem ultimately won the race for his signature.
Bamisebi praised the winger’s pace, dribbling ability and willingness to learn, saying he has the potential to attract interest from bigger European clubs in the future.
The move gives Musa an opportunity to continue his development in Belgium while competing for regular first-team football at Zulte Waregem.
