Ghanaian centre-back Alexander Djiku looks increasingly likely to leave Fenerbahce this summer after being informed he is not part of new manager Jose Mourinho’s plans for the upcoming 2025/26 season, Footy-Africa reports.
The Turkish club has slapped a €5 million price tag—plus add-ons—on the 30-year-old defender, who has just one year remaining on his contract. Djiku has drawn strong interest from Ligue 1 clubs, including Nice, Toulouse, and Rennes.
A source close to Djiku’s brother and agent, Jenhisghan Djiku, confirmed that Fenerbahce is eager to cash in rather than risk losing the experienced defender on a free next summer.
“Alex (Djiku) is not in Fenerbahce’s plans, and they want to sell him during the window to raise funds for other signings,” the source told Footy-Africa. “There’s strong interest from France, and the hope in Turkey is that one of the clubs can meet the €5 million valuation.”
Djiku featured prominently for Fenerbahce in the just-concluded season, making 38 appearances across the Turkish Super League, UEFA Europa League, and Turkish Cup. Despite his consistency and experience, Mourinho is reportedly looking to rejuvenate the squad with younger profiles.
According to Transfermarkt, Djiku’s current market value stands at €6.5 million. He joined Fenerbahce from Strasbourg in 2023 after four solid seasons in Ligue 1, where he amassed 137 appearances and four goals. He previously played for Caen and Bastia during his early years in France.
On the international stage, Djiku remains a key figure for Ghana. Since his debut in 2020 against Sudan, he has earned 33 caps for the Black Stars and played at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
With his Fenerbahce future all but sealed, a return to France looks like the most likely next step in the defender’s career.
