Austrian Bundesliga giants Austria Vienna are showing interest in signing Ghanaian forward Kelvin Boateng, but no official move has been made, as per Africa Foot.
Boateng Set to Become a Free Agent
Boateng’s contract with Austrian second-tier side First Vienna FC is set to expire on June 30, and he is not expected to renew it. The 25-year-old has spent the last two seasons at the club but is now eyeing a move to a more prominent team in European football.
According to insiders, the Ghanaian striker has made the decision not to extend his stay, hoping to secure a switch to a top-flight club during the summer transfer window.
Austria Vienna Monitoring the Situation
Responding to transfer rumours, a trusted source at HAGMAYR Sports Management, the agency representing Boateng, confirmed Austria Vienna’s long-standing interest. However, they also revealed that there has been no formal approach from the club.
“Kelvin is not renewing his contract at First Vienna as things currently stand—unless something dramatic changes. Austria Vienna have been admirers for a while, and that’s now public knowledge, but they haven’t contacted anyone from Kelvin’s camp. It’s a move he would absolutely be open to, but as of now, there have been no talks or formal contact,” the source told The Nerve Africa exclusively.
Impressive Season Despite Injuries
Boateng has been in fine form in the Austrian 2. Liga, scoring 12 goals and providing two assists in just 20 appearances this season—despite dealing with injury setbacks. His consistent performances have increased his profile, with his current market value estimated at €500,000 according to Transfermarkt.
Last season, he netted 10 goals and recorded two assists in 26 matches, proving himself a reliable attacking option for First Vienna.
European Experience and International Ambitions
Before his time in Austria, Boateng featured for FC Porto B in Portugal, Slovakian outfit Spartak Trnava, and Czech club MFK Karviná—showcasing a diverse European football journey.
Despite his club-level performances, the forward is yet to receive a call-up to Ghana’s senior national team, the Black Stars.
