After a lengthy spell as a free agent, highly rated Ugandan youngster Hakim Mutebi is edging closer to a fresh start, with Portuguese second-division club FC Felgueiras reportedly in advanced talks to secure his signature, Africa Foot reports.
Mutebi has been without a club since parting ways with Uganda Premier League record holders SC Villa during the winter transfer window of the 2023/24 season. He had been set to join Tunisian side Bizertin, but the deal collapsed despite a verbal agreement being reached.
With the current football season winding down in various leagues, Mutebiβs representatives at Prosper Sports Agencyare working diligently to finalize a five-year deal with FC Felgueiras. The 19-year-old attacking midfielder is seen as a long-term investment by the Portuguese outfit.
βThe talks have been ongoing for the past two days, as Felgueiras consider him a raw talent who can develop into a top player in the future. The feeling around our camp is that a deal will eventually happen. Heβs a fine player, despite the frustrations after the Bizertin move fell through. The next week will be crucial in progressing negotiations,β a source at Prosper Sports Agency told Africa Foot.
Despite his young age, Mutebi has already made a mark in Ugandan football. He was part of the SC Villa squad that won the 2023/24 Uganda Premier League and also played a starring role for Ugandaβs U18 team that lifted the 2023 CECAFA Championship, where he was named Most Valuable Player (MVP). Mutebi previously shone at the school level with St Maryβs School Kitende, earning MVP honors at the 2023 East African Schools Championships.
On the international stage, Mutebi has already earned three senior caps for the Uganda Cranes, scoring one goal and providing an assist during the FUFA Super 8 Tournament. He also helped Ugandaβs U20 team win bronze at the 2022 U20 Africa Cup of Nations.
