Veteran Ghanaian right-back and Reading FC captain Andy Yiadom is facing an uncertain future, with his contract at the English League One side set to expire on June 30, 2025, as per Africa Foot.
Yiadom, who has been with the Royals since 2018, was appointed club captain in 2022 after signing a three-year deal. However, with just over a month left on his current contract, there are no ongoing talks or offers for a renewal.
βNo Talks or Offersβ β Yiadom Set for Emotional Exit
A representative from Straight Ace Sports, Yiadomβs management agency, confirmed that the club has yet to initiate contract discussions and that an exit now looks likely.
βThe situation is what it isβthere hasn’t been any talks or offers as of now, and if it keeps this way, Andy (Yiadom) will definitely have to leave. It’ll be an emotional exit because he absolutely loves the club, and they’ve been incredibly good to him.
The fans have been unreal. What next? We’re not seatedβwe want to get a fitting deal for him, because he still has a lot to offer.β
Injury-Plagued Season for the Reading Skipper
Yiadomβs 2024/25 campaign was disrupted by a long-term injury, limiting him to just 14 senior appearances across all competitions. He also featured in three U-21 matches as part of his fitness recovery.
Despite the limited game time this season, Yiadom remains one of the most experienced players in the squad, and his leadership on and off the pitch has been widely praised by teammates and fans.
A Loyal Servant to Reading FC
Since joining Reading in the summer of 2018 from Barnsley FC, Yiadom has been a consistent presence in the team. Over seven seasons, he has amassed 222 appearances, scored 4 goals, and provided 10 assists for the Royals. Before his time at Reading and Barnsley, Yiadom also played for Barnet FC, Braintree Town, and Darlington FC, steadily rising through the English football pyramid.
Ghana International Career
On the international stage, Andy Yiadom has made 22 appearances for Ghanaβs senior national team, the Black Stars, with his last cap coming in 2022. His international pedigree, combined with his club experience, makes him an attractive free agent this summer. According to Transfermarkt, Yiadomβs current market value is estimated at β¬300,000.
With no new deal in sight and his time at the Select Car Leasing Stadium seemingly drawing to a close, Yiadom and his representatives are now exploring options for the next chapter in what has been a distinguished professional career.
