Ugandan midfielder Bobosi Byaruhanga is on the verge of joining Western Conference outfit Oakland Roots SC in the United Soccer League (USL) Championship, the second tier of the United States soccer pyramid, The Nerve Africa sources have exclusively learned.
The talented Ugandan international, who has been a free agent since the end of his spell with Czech Republic side MFK VyΕ‘kov, is set to sign a three-year contract this Tuesday, worth β¬200,000 (about 720 million Ugandan Shillings).
In an exclusive interview with a source at his representing agency, ProConnect Soccer, it was disclosed that Byaruhanga is already in the United States to complete his medical before signing his contract later today.
βBobosi is in the United States, ready for his medical tests and the signing of his anticipated contract today. The deal is a big one in terms of monetary value, as heβll earn β¬200,000 in sign-on fees. Itβs also an upgrade, as he has spent two seasons in the development league (MLS Next Pro), so we hope to see more progress in the coming years,β the source exclusively told The Nerve Africa.
Previously, as a player for MFK VyΕ‘kov, he was loaned to Major League Soccer (MLS) Next Pro side Austin II, where he spent the past two seasons. During his time there, he helped the team win the Western Conference Championship and the MLS Next Pro Cup in 2023.
In the recently concluded season with Austin II, the 23-year-old made 24 appearances across all competitions, scoring three goals and providing two assists. In the 2023 campaign, he featured in 26 matches, scoring once and registering three assists. Notably, he is also a two-time Uganda Premier League champion with Vipers SC.
Meanwhile, despite being only 23 years old, Byaruhanga has already earned 26 competitive caps for the Uganda national team, the Cranes, scoring twice and providing four assists in national team colors.
