Legon Cities head coach Paa Kwesi Fabin believes talented young midfielder Fatawu Ganiwu has the potential to succeed in Europe but hinted at more development in Ghana for at least one season.
Ganiwu, 16, completed a trial at Chelsea earlier in 2024, playing for the Blues’ U18 team before sealing a loan move to Ghana Premier League side Legon Cities for the 2024/25 season.
He’s currently training under Paa Kwesi Fabin, one of Ghana’s biggest talent developers, with over two decades of coaching experience, having managed powerhouses like Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak.
“Ganiwu has been doing well. He’s young and sometimes he needs a lot of coaching to be able to get there but there’s the potential for him to grow and become one of the best players in the country. He has to go through the meal here as we coach. He has to go through a lot of things to be able to play up there,” Paa Kwesi Fabin told Nerve Africa.
“I keep telling my players that it is not easy playing in Europe. It’s very tough there so you need to toughen yourself here before you can get there and make names for yourselves but he’s working hard so we hope that the opportunity comes for him to get there and to be able to make it,” he added.
Ganiwu is expected to return to Chelsea at the end of the season. Legon Cities are currently 17th on the Ghana Premier League table.
